UNICEF presents: Growing up in war-torn Syria
20:00 tot 22:00Upstairs UNICEF presents: Growing up in war-torn SyriaThe picture of the dead body of little 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi, found on a beach near Bodrum, has received worldwide media attention. That same night, our guest speaker Marah Alasaad was on one of the five boats that tried to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Turkey to Greece. 22-year-old Marah will share her moving story about her upbringing in Damascus and how she was able to flee Syria at the age of 19 on her own and build a life for herself in Germany. Marah is very active in spreading awareness and has already interviewed Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the current German Federal President, on the topics of migration and integration, and will talk at TEDxMünster this year. Additionally, Professor Florian Lippert (Deputy Chair of European Culture and Literature) will provide an insight into how the refugee crisis has been narrated through documentaries and film, with specific focus on the refugee migration across European borders. Drinks and middle-eastern snacks will be available! We look forward seeing you there! The UNICEF Awareness Committee
